Gout can be effectively treated with acupuncture and herbal medicine in East Asian medicine.


* Acupuncture

Acupuncture helps to quickly relieve acute symptoms of gout. The main acupuncture treatment methods are as follows:

+ Five Elements Acupuncture: Supply oxygen to the blood to regulate and normalize uric acid.

+ Bloodletting: Needling the Sangyang and Gyu-eum points with a lancet to bloodletting.

+ Needling: Needling the Tonggok and Hyeopgye points related to gout to reduce pain.

* Herbal Medicine

In addition, various oriental medicine treatments such as acupuncture, electroacupuncture, moxibustion, and herbal medicine can be used in parallel to improve symptoms.


*Lifestyle management

Patients with gout require the following dietary management:

Foods to avoid: Offal, mackerel, anchovies, mackerel, sardines, yeast, bacon

Foods to eat: Eggs, cheese, milk, grains, bread, most vegetables, sugar

In addition, limiting alcohol intake, limiting purine intake, limiting high-fructose corn syrup, and losing weight are recommended.

Treating gout with acupuncture and herbal medicine is effective in ending acute attacks, preventing relapses, and reducing the occurrence of complications.
